Thomas Stotts

Thomas Stotts bio photographThomas Stotts. I've been painting since childhood. Growing up in Oklahoma, I always admired the beauty and mystery of the thunder clouds that would move in across the plains. It is natural that I became a landscape painter and that a large part of my work focuses on the power and beauty of God's creation. Trips to Santa Fe, NM as well as Oxford, England expanded my subject matter.

In 2010 I decided to "go all in" and tour for 18 months as a traveling festival artist. Starting in California in January and being accepted in shows across the country we started a great experiment. In June we found ourselves walking the sands of the "Jersey Shore". After that show, we stayed an extra day and I painted on the beach. As the sun was heading down that last day, to our joy, a school of dolphins or porpoises came by near the shore to greet us and then bid us goodbye. The next day on to NYC and Scarsdale, NY. We were able to spend three free days in NYC. After New York, it was on to Chicago where we rode the "L" train, saw Wrigley Field, ate at Rick Bayless' restaurant, (Rick is from OKC and I grew up with him and his brother Skip of ESPN fame. From Chicago, a stop in St. Louis to see a Cardinal baseball game and then home the next day. In the summer we were in the Crested Butte Fine Art Festival and then went to Telluride where the mountains of both areas are unreal they are so beautiful. I plan to make those Rocky Mountains a major part of my work through the years. Another major segment of my work, probably what I'm best known for, are the clouds, thunderheads, and sunsets of the plains and northern plains. A trip through Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Minnesota were great help in finding new subject matter.
